The Eboga Religion

meyaya@iboga.org

Origins:

  • The Mitsogo people of South Gabon practiced the Bwiti religion, based upon consumption of the hallucinogenic Eboga plant, long before the Fang. They likely learnt of the plant, and it's amazing properties, from the pygmies native to the region.
Bwiti is becoming adopted by many Fang peoples, replacing their original religion, Byeri, who's rituals are less evocative, being based around the inferior plant, the Alan.
